Why we need math ?

Knowledge of mathematics is useful in life. It's not about solving trigonometric equations.

 Reason 1. Ambiguity

How did the reforms of Peter I affect the development of the state? A controversial topic. Why did certain events happen in history? Can a legal state listen to its citizens? An ambiguous issue.

And finally: 3x + 4x = 7x. Yesterday, 50 years ago, in Africa, in crisis, in bad weather.

Reason 2. Development of thinking

A child has learned to count, if he is only engaged in calculation, sooner or later he will lag behind in development. Of course, the brain can calculate using complex algorithms. But not the depth of thinking, only the speed develops.

Later, geometry, trigonometry, stereometry, and logarithms are introduced. Each successively more complex topic helps the development of the student's mental capacity: analysis and generalization skills, abstract thinking, the ability to think with concepts.

Reason 3. Thinking about abstract things

Everyone knows that if two duckbills are added to one duckbill, there will be three duckbills in total. Everyone who solves the problem can solve the problem, even if he has never seen a duck nose in his life. It is mathematics that teaches us to project in our imaginations what we do not have in reality. We use information from the present to plan for the long and short future. The quality of such planning depends on our mathematical abilities.

Reason 4. Accepting complex solutions

You have only n soums, you need 1 million for vacation, you choose the cheaper option. Because mathematics taught us to compare. No matter how much we want to go on our dream vacation, mathematical reality tells us that it is impossible.

A typical problem for fifth-sixth grade. 100 children live in city A, 300 in city B. The distance between cities is 10 km. At what point should the school be built so that the children of both cities travel less distance?

Reason 5. Yes, you can almost use it

The influence of mathematics on the successful work of programmers, scientists and engineers is clear as day.

Many times I have met engineers who use trigonometry in their design. And office workers who optimize their activities will have a competitive advantage.

Reason 6. We study algorithms

We don't think when we repeat algorithms in life. We don't know how to breathe, how to tie a shoelace. We do not plan to go to work for the 1000th time. We mastered all these skills before going to school.

But when it comes to high-level algorithms, mathematics helps us. Preparing the right mixture of substances, performing surgery (surgeon makes decisions based on incoming data), making logical decisions, etc.

Also, mathematics tells us that it is foolish to perform the same action and expect different results. Your colleague is making coffee according to the usual algorithm, but the coffee maker is not working. He repeats the same action again, and there is no sign of the coffee. Analyze his math level.

Reason 7. Generalization and detection of lies

    It can be different.

The joke is false: "This is the best paper on math by a math teacher." By reducing the information field like this, we can not only make jokes, but also cause misunderstanding.

A statistic that looks like a lie: "According to statistics, most of the people who drank the water died." This is the most obvious example.

Another type of statistical falsity can be harmful not only to those who read this information but also to those who collect it. This is the fallacy of choice. You open your own business and conduct a survey about confectionery products near the business center. You got a sample of 1500 people. You understood the desire of the future customer, and taking into account the desire of the people, you launched a confectionery enterprise in your district. But there are no customers. You are in trouble.

Our mathematics knowledge helps us correctly analyze such information and draw the necessary conclusions.
